Education is a serious matter,
especially when it comes to condensed urban areas in the city. The
city is a melting pot of cultures, backgrounds and classes, meaning
that the range of educational options available has to be diverse in
order to meet the many needs of an urban population. This is the
reason that teachers flock to the cities and educational institutions
are always searching for more staff and this fact makes sure that
there is always movement and progress in the world or urban
education. What is it that makes a teacher great in the city? Is
there a certain attitude that can define success in this fluid and
ever-changing environment? A recent New York City teaching recruit,
Joy L Miketzuk, gives us an example of what it takes to make
education more than a career.
Joy L Miketzuk comes from a
small town in New Jersey and has a modest background. Her parents put
much money aside for her education which allowed her to go to
university and to finally put in the hard work required to begin a
path to teaching. At William Paterson University Joy L Miketzuk
was renowned for the hours of study she put in at the library by her
colleagues and admired by her tutors for the development that she
displayed with each assignment she handed in. Gaining the respect of
those around you through hard work is what can be observed from her
time in study and it is a value that has helped teachers in cities
everywhere. Being receptive, dedicated and clear minded allows for
teaching environments to remain inviting and comforting places for
staff and students.
Joy L Miketzuk followed on from
her time at university by moving to one of the most notoriously
bustling and busy cities in the United States, New York City. It is
here that her path to inner city teaching bloomed and she developed
yet more skills that helped her on her way. Displaying enthusiasm and
innovative methods of teaching she was accepted into the New York
City Teaching Fellows, a recognized authority when it comes to
education. Judging by the skills that Joy L Miketzuk has
displayed so far it seems that the values one can take away are those
of flexibility, goal orientation and simple hard work. Harbouring
these things will aid any teacher on the road to their dream career
in the world of urban teaching.
