Joy Miketzuk, Teacher and Snow Sports Enthusiast

How many teachers do you know? Did you know them when they were first starting as a teacher? Did you ever see them? Probably very little--teaching is incredibly demanding on one’s time and energy, especially in the first couple of years. There are hours of lesson planning, classroom set-up, grading, administrative paperwork, and discipline issues to deal with. Teaching has been such a common profession for so many decades now that we sometimes forget everything it involves. The motto “work hard, play hard” sometimes becomes just “work hard…” unless one is dedicated to enjoying hobbies and getting out of the teaching world (or integrating hobbies into the teaching world) every now and then.

NYC area teacher Joy Miketzuk is both Sporting and Succeeding in her life as a teacher and a snow sports enthusiast. She loves skiing, snowboarding, snow tubing and other outdoor winter activities. New York is a great place in the winter to find these opportunities, but in the summer...she goes to baseball and basketball games! She also enjoys traveling, the beach, and cooking. She entered the New York City Teaching Fellows program to try and offer her well-rounded outlook to the kids of the inner city school district.

Completing the NYC Teaching Fellow program, Ms. Miketzuk gained a special certification for teaching in the inner city. Teaching Fellows are committed to teaching NYC’s diverse students, many of whom have special needs or are new immigrants or non-native English speakers, and to teaching critical-need subject areas, including math and science. Fellows are excellent teachers who advocate for their students and maximize their impact by tackling projects above and beyond their teaching duties, such as starting clubs, traveling to conferences, coaching sports, and building their school communities. The program helps its candidates to approach teaching holistically, realizing there is more to teaching than just explaining multiplication tables.

Teaching is not a static position. Teachers these days are expected to have limitless energy, and be mentors and authority figures. It helps Ms. Miketzuk’s students when she can relate to them, and offer real-life wisdom combined with strong subject lessons. Combining her hobbies with her passion for teaching, Joy Miketzuk hopes to model Integrity in a Balanced Life to her students (as well as maintain the “...play hard” part of the mantra!).

Joy L. Miketzuk, From The Small Town To The Big City

Joy L. Miketzuk is an individual who achieved a life of enviable balance and order. This has has brought success to her with surprising ease and, from fairly humble beginnings in New Jersey, she now seems destined for a solid, stable, useful career as an established teacher in New York City. Over the course of her brief life, she has constantly acted as a role model for others, and the intriguing story of her life provides those in need of a little inspiration in their lives with an invaluable example of what can be achieved with hard work and perseverance. What is particularly interesting is the way in which Joy Miketzuk has been able to maintain a successful leisure, sports and social life alongside her blossoming professional life - the balance between the two being seemingly effortless at every turn of her actions.

Joy Miketzuk has come a long way from the small town to the big city and this has clearly had a marked effect on both her personal and professional life. She learned her abilities in measuring out the fun and the hard work in her native state of New Jersey. Born to a family of modest means, Joy L. Miketzuk knew what it meant to put in the hours in order to get what you want, a message passed down through her family line for generations. The hard work paid off and she made it into William Paterson University where she excelled in her grades and impressed the many tutors that she is still in touch with today. This spark of intellectual activity gave her a taste for teaching, and she now enjoys a fruitful career teaching in New York City. However the time in New Jersey also gave her the ability to see the importance of other aspects of life as well, and it is this rare combination of sense and sensibility that has made Joy Miketzuk the all-round person she is today.

Joy L. Miketzuk found her other passion to be winter sports. In the heavy snow she was inspired by the environment and its capacity for providing great sporting moments and she threw herself into a world of activity. Since her early twenties she has been skiing, snow tubing and snowboarding in the most popular locations for winter sport in the United States. With her spare time so well filled it is no surprise that she has become something of a minor celebrity sportsperson wherever she travels.

The lesson that Joy Miketzuk provides for us is perhaps that simply enjoying the very essence of what you do can lead you to embrace it in the fullest way imaginable. As she has stated, she has not since looked back from teaching, and always looks forward to the next opportunity to get her skis packed. Read more about Joy L. Miketzuk on scoop.it

Joy Miketzuk - Creativity as an Important Learning Tool

One of the most neglected skills in the current education system has been creativity. Over the past fifty years, whilst most teachers recognize the importance of the skill, it has been sidelined as 'unacademic', and of secondary importance. Subjects such as art, design, drama and music have been more and more marginalized, to the point where the public perception of subjects has also been altered. However, with innovative research being done in the fields of education by scientists and academics, it is being revealed that creativity is one of the key components and skills that can be developed in a child not only in creative fields, but also in benefiting them academically. As Einstein always quipped, creativity is more important than knowledge.

New teachers like Joy L. Miketzuk are seeing this shift in opinion, and are embracing it to develop the best classes and learning methods. Joy has recognized in her short career so far, that having children who are able to think outside the box,and with creative spirit makes them to be perfect for learning new things. Curiosity and inquisitiveness, are key skills and information acquisition abilities, and alongside creativity are making for renewed classroom atmospheres. Not only is the importance of subjects like art, drama and music gaining momentum, but creative thinking in more academic subjects like science and maths are being explored. Having a playful and fun approach to learning more difficult subjects not only helps engage children, but cultivates a particular way of thinking, that can help them develop new ideas and exciting learning methods.

Joy Miketzuk hasn't been a teacher for long, but is delighted by her class' response to more creative teaching and learning methods. Because of these, children's behavior tends to be better, as they are more engaged, less bored and thus less likely to disrupt the rest of the class. In later life, the skill of creativity can also not be underestimated. IN the professional workplace, recruiters now want creative individuals in all roles, who have the ability to learn new things, think outside the box, and develop new strategies and ideas. What better time to cultivate creative skills than from a young age. The times are changing. Fond out more about Joy L Miketzuk - Education As A Lifestyle here.

Joy Miketzuk - From the Small Town to the Big City

Migrating across the state borders is something that many Americans will experience during their lifetimes and is something acknowledged as being one of the greatest things about the United States. The wealth of land and diversity of people is unlike anywhere else in the world and Americans are taking advantage of this more and more each day as the travel industry grows and prices drop. The success stories, however, differ greatly. It is not uncommon to hear about those who go running home due to the level of change, or of those who feel out of place in their new location. The subject of this article, Joy Miketzuk, is not one of the latter individuals. She has succeeded in the quest for taking her skills across the United States and has set an example for others trying to do the same thing.

Joy Miketzuk now lives in New York City where she is on course for a successful and enriching career in teaching. She loves everything about the city; its inhabitants, its many unique stores, and so on - but how did she get there? Joy Miketzuk was born in New Jersey to a regular, working family with good friends and all the amenities of a modest American town. She enjoyed her time growing up there and she continues to speak fondly of it today. She was able to make the most of her time there by attending the William Paterson University. At this institution Joy Miketzuk began to make her reputation as a name to watched in the small town as her grades excelled and she won the respect of her tutors. The success she experienced in education drove her to go further and to do what many other American travelers have done; to move city.

Joy Miketzuk found herself in New York City where she continued to work with the same dedicated spirit that had been raised in her from the start. Soon enough she was accepted into the New York City Teaching Fellows where she now carries good official stature as an educator. She made it her mission to educate the citizens around her and to look to children as those who carry the future in them. As a respected teacher Joy Miketzuk now can look back on her past and see the lengths she has traveled winding back behind her. She has come a long way, but the lesson she gives us is not to let that fact get to our heads. Though her travels were vast, Joy Miketzuk continues to look onwards into the future.

Education is a serious matter, especially when it comes to condensed urban areas in the city. The city is a melting pot of cultures, backgrounds and classes, meaning that the range of educational options available has to be diverse in order to meet the many needs of an urban population. This is the reason that teachers flock to the cities and educational institutions are always searching for more staff and this fact makes sure that there is always movement and progress in the world or urban education. What is it that makes a teacher great in the city? Is there a certain attitude that can define success in this fluid and ever-changing environment? Gaining the respect of those around you through hard work is what can be observed from her time in study and it is a value that has helped teachers in cities everywhere. Being receptive, dedicated and clear minded allows for teaching environments to remain inviting and comforting places for staff and students.

Joy L Miketzuk followed on from her time at university by moving to one of the most notoriously bustling and busy cities in the United States, New York City.
